Although the primary use will be for camping, I purchased a new tent that was on sale for a pretty good price (saved $30). A tent is always a good piece of gear to have on hand in case of some sort of disaster. Knowing how to use it and the other camping gear we have is also a pretty important skill.
We added some money to our savings and we are slowly inching our way up to our goal of having four month’s salary in the bank.
From a physical health perspective, I started exercising again. Man, it didn’t take long to loose all the progress I had made previously in terms of physical conditioning. I also bought a second water bottle to help me meet my goal of drinking a liter of water every day to help flush my system and stay properly hydrated.
It was a payday week so I picked up some ammo this week. I also bought 1000 small pistol primers. This will take me through my current supply of empty brass and leave me with an extra three or four hundred extra. Because of the cost of the primers I didn’t buy as much ammunition as I would have liked but I still made progress towards my ammo inventory goals.
Prayer time and getting closer to god is going well. I have been diligent in praying and studying the Word every day and I do feel like I am getting closer to God. I know I am way more focused on living my life as He commands than I ever have been. There is nothing for me to take credit for in all this. All I have done is turn to Him and give the steering wheel over to Him and let Him work through me.
How does this relate to being prepared?
It’s simple really. There is a probability that will will be hit by a tropical storm or hurricane in the next five years. Down here on the Gulf Coast that’s pretty much a given although it’s been pretty quiet the last few years. Given the current economic state there is a equally good probability I will be affected in some way. I have been laid off in the last 18 months and so has my son. One of my sons in law has been laid off twice in that time period. The is a possibility of some sort of civil unrest in this country, of another terrorist attack, or any number of natural or man made disasters that could affect us. But there is a 100% certainty that, at some point, I will die. It happens to each and every one of us at some point. Being prepared for that is the most important thing we can do for ourselves and our loved ones.
That’s it for me. What did you prep this week?
