Random links to various news stories and blog posts that caught my attention this week:
One Woman’s Experience On The No-Fly List – For ten years Rahinah Ibrahim has been trying to get her name off the no fly list. She’s a mother, an architect, a Stanford grad and Muslim. Is she a terrorist? The courts say no, but she still can’t get off the list.
The Media Keeps Misfiring When It Writes About Guns – Ya’ Think? Amazingly enough this article comes from ultra-liberal, anti-gun Slate.com. Here is the basic fact that is overlooked. The job of the media is to report the news, the facts. It is not their job to further their own agendas. The basic underlying premise of the article is that media is biased and if they are to be more effective they need to be able to at “get the facts straight.” Oh my, what have we come to?
Most Americans Have No Savings – I came across several articles this week about the savings habits of Americans (or, lack thereof). For example, 66% of all Americans have no savings, no money set aside for a rainy day or emergency. Of those who are saving very few have more than a few months worth of expenses set aside. The percentage of folks with more than six months expenses set as is almost nil. While articles like these (link and link) express concern at this trend government policy does everything possible to encourage spending and discourage savings. In a recent economic report the term used for people saving money was “cash hoaders” and blame for the slow economic recovery was placed on those who save rather than go deeper into debt.
God bless and have a great weekend!
