We Knew It Would Happen…

Many of us knew it would happen, it was just a matter of when and what the body count would be. A man driven by leftist propaganda attacked a group of Republican Congressmen practicing for a charity baseball game (link) with a rifle and a handgun. It appears the body count only includes the Bernie supporter who carried out the attack but one Congressman and several others were wounded.

The wounded Congressman, House Majority Whip Scalise was, ironically the recipient of the most severe injury but also a big part of the reason the casualties were (fairly) light. The Capital Police detail assigned to protect one of the highest ranking members of the House were the only armed protection on site and were able to stop the attack. Had the Representative Scalise not been in attendance it would have been a far different story as it took Alexandria, VA police ten minutes or more to respond. Representative Mo Brooks summed it up pretty well with the quote of the day from yesterday:

“All we would have had would have been baseball bats versus a rifle. Those aren’t good odds.”

No, they are not Representative Brooks which is why the Second Amendment is so important to those of us without federal protection details. However, anti-gun liberals were calling for curtailing those rights even before the attacker’s body reached room temperature.

Folks, over the last decade or so we have seen American politics and society as a whole become ever more divided. Tribalism in the US is rampant and growing worse everyday. Unless we can find leadership that can reverse this trend and start to bring us back together this type of event will become ever more common. As serious as the injuries inflicted were, if we don’t find a way to reign this kind of thing in future incidents will be far, far worse.

I don’t believe such actions will be limited to leftists and Democrats. At some point the divide and the escalating attacks incited by the media and our “leaders” will generate reprisals and attacks by the Right as well. It will take longer but it will happen. There are crazies (useful idiots) on both sides.

Some believe there is time to step back from the brink of madness. I hope and pray they are right. Personally, I think we are already on the slippery slope and it is not a matter of if, but how quickly, before the thin line between civilization and chaos is breached…

Do you have a plan or an idea of what you will do if/when that line is crossed?

Are you ready to implement that plan/idea?

If not, you might want to get on that…

God bless.

More Media Twisting And Spinning

About two weeks ago 39-year-old Kori Ali Muhammad went on a shooting spree in Fresno California killing at least three. His motivation appears to be racial and he stated he hated white people and specifically targeted white men in his rampage. As he was taken into custody he yelled Allahu Akhbar.

Many news agencies took it upon themselves to translate his screams into English (god is great) and neglected to mention that it had been translated. Many refused to mention the racial angle in any more than passing. Compare that to the coverage of Dylan Roof’s similarly motivated acts of violence and we see yet another instance of the media twisting and spinning to further their own agenda rather than report the facts…

God bless.

Who Watches The Watchers: ATF Edition

who_watches_the_watchmen__by_jarvisrama99-d7a5yw6Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

-Juvenal

Translated:

Who will guard the guardians?

or

Who can watch the watchmen?

When the arm of the government responsible for enforcing the laws of the US blatantly disregard those same laws what does that say about the state of our union?

Federal law forbids the creation of a national gun registry, forbids the collection of personal information about US citizens but that didn’t matter to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF). According to a report released by the Government Accounting Office (GAO) the ATF chose to do it anyway.

So, what will happen to those responsible for knowingly breaking they law they are entrusted to enforce?

Probably nothing…

There will be hand wringing, finger pointing, promises to discipline those involved, some reassignment of roles and responsibilities and then business will return to normal.

Centuries ago Greek writers like Juvenal and Plato contemplated the same challenges we face today and debated possible solutions for decades. Our founding also fathers foresaw the same threat. Their solution was to severely limit the powers of the federal government, and to provide a system of checks and balances between the federal branches as well as between the state and the federal governments. Unfortunately, we have been removing those limits and checks and balances for decades and this is what we end up with…

It isn’t just the ATF, it is the IRS, the EPA, the Veterans Administration, etc. all conduct themselves as if they were above the laws of the land. They seem to hold those very laws and duties they are sworn to uphold as inconveniences to be worked around. They seem to hold the laws of this land and the people of this nation in contempt.

While I have doubts he will actually do it, I couldn’t agree more with the Trump slogan that it is truly (past) time to drain the swamp and hold Washington bureaucrats and politicians accountable.

Sorry for the rant…

God Bless

Not With A Bang But With A Whimper

If you spend any time on gun forums, gun related pages on FezBook or most gun stores you know them, the self-proclaimed III%ers who are ready to go to war as soon as the government begins confiscating firearms or abolishing the 2nd Amendment. I have even heard of police officers predicting 90% of local law enforcement would fall ill with the “blue flu” if such orders ever came from Washington. There is always a lot of testosterone laden bluster and chest thumping on the subject.

On the other side you have the anti’s who scoff at the idea of millions of gun owners armed only with rifles and handguns taking on the might of Washington. Drones, tanks and supersonic fighters they say make such resistance futile and short lived. Of course, not being well versed in history or things military they forget that countries like Afghanistan and Vietnam have been fighting off vastly superior armies not just for decades but for centuries. They either ignore or forget that the Syrian military was far better equipped than many of our NATO allies and was a significant regional power. Their military was armed with plenty of modern tanks, supersonic fighters and probably some drone technology too. Until a bunch of fanatics with suicide vests and AKs virtually crushed them. In fact if it wasn’t for the assistance of Russian and another bunch of fanatic terrorists (Hezbollah) Syria exist only as a province of the ISIS proclaimed caliphate.

Keyboard commandos can debate both sides of this argument forever because that’s just not how it will likely play out. Even anti-gun politicians are smart enough to know that door to door confiscation will not work in the US. The laws, if they pass, will go into effect and many legal gun owners (because they are law abiding folks by and large) will comply; definitely not all, maybe not even the majority but many will.

What about the rest?

I don’t think it will be door to door confiscation. It will be accomplished through much more subtle means that are less likely to create a flashpoint event. In fact, the folks over at AllOutdoor.com have posted a pretty good start of the types of tactics they will use. Check it out here.

Unfortunately, I think some sort of flashpoint is likely.  It will probably be over some fairly obscure situation that no one on either side expected to escalate out of control, something like the Bundy Ranch standoff or another Waco or Ruby Ridge. I don’t know when it will come, probably not in my lifetime but unless there are major changes in this country we are headed to some sort of tipping point. I hope and pray, it will be a peaceful one like an Article V Constitutional Convention.

Pray for our nation. Pray for our leaders, even those you don’t like. Pray we can get this country back on track. I do. Every day.

God Bless

An Open Letter to Senator John Cornyn

I have called your office (several times since the voice mail box was full) and sent several emails. There should be NO new gun control measures passed. I will be watching your voting record on these matters and it will be a deciding factor in my decisions on who to support in upcoming election cycles.

The “no-fly” and “terror” watch lists should NOT be used to determine who should be allowed to buy a firearm. There is no due process involved in secret lists, that do not have clearly defined processes for how people are added and removed form the list. While it may be easy for a member of Congress to get themselves removed (as the late Senator Kennedy had to do) but for average American this is represents a serious financial burden to “prove” their innocence.

Terrorism is a serious problem but if we fight terrorism by infringing on our own rights and freedoms…the terrorists have won.

Thank you and God Bless.

MiniTrue At Work In America: Orlando Edition

The George Orwell’s 1984 the Ministry of Truth (or MiniTrue) was responsible for news and entertainment and the workplace of the main character Winston Smith. The building, a 300 meter high behemoth, was emblazoned with the party slogans:

“WAR IS PEACE”

“FREEDOM IS SLAVERY”

“IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH”

None of which seem particularly outlandish in post millennial America.

This week the Justice Department (DoJ), whose name may be almost as ironic as MiniTrue, released the “transcripts” of the Orlando terrorist’s 911 call the morning he attacked the Pulse nightclub. The initial transcript included redacted names and even the “full” transcript contains some interesting paraphrasing.

The Justice Department redacted the names of ISIS and its leader, who the terrorist pledged his allegiance to:

OD: What’s your name?

OM: My name is I pledge of allegiance to [omitted].

The true transcript reads:

OD: What’s your name?
OM: My name is I pledge of allegiance to Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi of the Islamic State.

The justification for this redaction? They wanted to save the victims families pain…Will it hurt more to lose a loved one because the man who murdered them mentions ISIS their head honcho?  As the brouhaha over the editing grew, the story changed and the edits were made because the Special Agent in charge of the investigation believed they did not “represent the religion of Islam, but a perverted view.” Still later they added that it was because they didn’t want to fuel the ISIS propaganda machine, which seems to have no trouble fueling itself.

Still remaining after these redactions are some “helpful” translations of the terrorists words. For example, he opens with:

OM: In the name of God the Merciful, the beneficent [Arabic]

I don’t have access to the actual transcripts or the audio files of the call but I bet his actual words were something like this:

Bismillah

Which is roughly the same phrase in Arabic. It is also the first verse in the Qur’an and the first verse of most of the Suras but that would imply that this Islamic terrorist was actually what he was, a radical Muslim (link).

The ironic thing is that on the Sunday morning talk shows Attorney General Lynch touted how the release of these transcripts showed the transparency of the current administration…Her boss later tossed her under the buss saying this redaction was the DoJ’s call and the WhiteHouse had nothing to do with it…

If this was an isolated incident, sure I could buy that it was just a poor decision. Instead this is part of a pattern of disinformation from Washington.

Pray for our nation…

The NRA Sells Us Out Again…Still

As I scrolled through my news feeds on Sunday morning saw a link to an article from the Wall Street Journal stating that the NRA was willing to compromise and support additional restrictions on our Second Amendment rights in the wake of the Orlando terror attack. To say I was angry was an understatement but I really wasn’t surprised, to be honest.

Since the headline linked to an article that was for subscribers only I held off on commenting. Unfortunately, this video of NRA spokesman and chief lobbyist hit may Facebook feed later in the day:

He very clearly states that the NRA would support a mandatory waiting period for anyone on the terror watch list or no-fly list. So, like they did with the Clinton Assault Weapons Ban they are willing to make deals and trade off our gun rights for whatever political payback they’ll be getting on the back end.

For those of you who are unaware, there is no documented mechanism that people are added to these lists. These lists are not publicly available to see who is actually on them. There is no notification that you are on them until you are not allowed to board a flight. Although, there technically is a way to prove your innocence and get off the list the reality is that unless you are a well connected politician or gain some media notoriety for your case, you are stuck on the list forever. Not quite what the founding fathers had in mind…

I have been a longtime member of the NRA and have supported them with extra donations and through retailers programs at Midway USA and Amazon Smile. However, at this point, I WILL NOT SEND THEM ANY MORE MONEY.

I will renew my membership in the Gun Owners of America and will shift the money that went to the NRA to them and the Second Amendment Foundation.

God bless.
