It’s Not Paranoia If…

Here is a quote from a July 4th column published in a fairly mainstream (and supposedly Christian) newspaper:

Normally, when I get into a debate with a conservative friend and we are at an impasse, with no hope for resolution, I try to ease the tension with levity, and say, “Well, when the revolution comes, I will put in a good word for you and your family.” To my friends in the Republican political and legal establishment who have not stood up to Trump: When the revolution comes, you are on your own, and I will be clamoring not for mercy but for a seat next to the guillotine, where I can do my knitting.

This was not in the comments section. It was the last paragraph in an editorial from a regular columnist with the publication…

I don’t like Trumpette. I don’t agree with all of his policies but there are a number of them that I do agree with including efforts to slow illegal immigration, protect our borders and curb terrorism. Will that be enough to get my head and the heads of my family onto this “man’s” chopping block? Or, will that qualify for the leniency of a “reeducation camp” somewhere? Once the flames of civil war are fanned will it even matter?

I was asked why I would need a passport before the next administration takes office. This is it in a nutshell.

Those of us in this country who support the rule of law, especially the Constitution, and who believe in the principles on which this nation was founded find ourselves increasingly under attack. At some point in the near future those who hold the same views as this columnist will once again hold the Presidency of the USA. At that point all bets will be off.

At that point those without a passport and the means to escape may find themselves (and their families) on the platform for a date with Madame Guillotine or fighting for their lives. There was a very good reason the founding fathers wanted to ensure that the citizenry was armed against tyranny, even if the tyrants are fellow citizens.

Of course, those pushing for the harassment of conservatives and Trump supporters, violent counter-protests to stifle free-speech, the internment camps, and the guillotine only have the best of intentions. They are doing it for our own good, but as C. S. Lewis once observed:

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Our nation is growing ever more polarized. I had hoped for a Presidential candidate who would bridge the divide. That didn’t happen. Both parties put forward candidates that were even more polarizing, candidates that widened the gap between us, rather than bridging it. As a result we are staring into an abyss. If we can’t find a way to back away from it…

…my great, great grandparents knew the horrors of civil war first hand. We may just have to (re)learn them first hand. I pray we do not.

Take care and God bless.

Some Animals Are More Equal Than Others: Anti-Gun Priest’s Armed Security

Michael Pfleger is outspoken in his opposition private ownership of firearms. He has been arrested (though not charged) for blocking the entrance to a gun store as part of an anti-gun protest. He was also recorded publicly calling for the owner of the store to be “snuffed” out, although he claims he thought the term meant to pull out as in they would pull the owner out of his hole…

Although the senior priest of St. Sabina’s Roman Catholic Church in Chicago denies having an armed security detail. Most would beg to differ. In fact one of the men associated with Mr. Pfleger was arrested, outside of St. Sabina’s, when police spotted him holding a firearm. It seems that although he is a licensed security guard, Mr. Henry Eugene Hale, does not have a valid Firearms Owners ID (FOID) which is required in Illinois. He was later released on $150 bail (!) after the local precinct’s phones were inundated with calls from parishioners…

Which all goes to show, once again that:

Gun control is not about guns. It is about control. Control over those that don’t share the same opinion as the “more equal animals” on the farm.

Take care and God bless.

A Million Dollars A Minute

That is not what the US government spends, no they spend more that that, that is what they borrow…everyday, all day long. The current total for the US Federal debt is about $20.7 trillion dollars and as Judge Andrew P. Napolitano observed in his post A Million Dollars A Minute “that is a debt bomb that is waiting to explode.”

He goes on to explain:

Every year, the federal government collects about $2.5 trillion in revenue and spends it all. It borrows another $1.5 trillion to $2 trillion and spends it all…the federal government will need to spend about $1 trillion a year in interest payments.

That $1 trillion is 40 percent of the revenue collected by the federal government; that’s 40 cents on every dollar in tax revenue going to interest on old debts — interest payments that are legally unavoidable by taxpayers and voters.

The government (unlike the rest of us) can use some pretty shady accounting practices to maintain this level of debt creation. For example, the can print money to use to buy their own debt (don’t try that at home); they can manipulate the economy to increase inflation making the debt worth less and they can even manipulate the interest rates so they can borrow more at less cost. There are a lot of other tricks they can use but this cannot go on indefinitely. Eventually, they (meaning we the people) will have to pay the piper.

Think this is not a serious threat? Think that there are more serious threats out there like the Russians? Here is what the Judge had to say about that:

President Obama’s and President Trump’s own military and intelligence chiefs have argued that the national debt — not the Russians or the Islamic State group or the North Koreans — is the greatest threat to freedom and security that we face today.

And before anyone jumps up and starts blaming either side of the political aisle, both parties are guilty of digging us into this hole:

…after eight years of publicly complaining that then-President Barack Obama was borrowing more than $1 trillion a year to fund the government — borrowing that the Republicans silently consented to — congressional Republicans, now in control of Congress and with a friend in the Oval Office, voted to spend and hence borrow between $5 trillion and $6 trillion more than tax revenue will produce in the next three years; that’s a few trillion more than they complained about in the Obama years.

While I am concerned about war with North Korea and terror attacks this is what really keeps me up at night. Keep in mind, that the last time the world faced a financial crisis of this magnitude we ended up in this little conflict called World War II. People in desperate economic times with clutch at any promise of prosperity even if it is made be madmen like Hitler.

How many are actively preparing for this disaster? How many people around the world even realize the magnitude of the risk we are facing?

Think, plan, prepare…and God bless.

We Knew It Would Happen…

Many of us knew it would happen, it was just a matter of when and what the body count would be. A man driven by leftist propaganda attacked a group of Republican Congressmen practicing for a charity baseball game (link) with a rifle and a handgun. It appears the body count only includes the Bernie supporter who carried out the attack but one Congressman and several others were wounded.

The wounded Congressman, House Majority Whip Scalise was, ironically the recipient of the most severe injury but also a big part of the reason the casualties were (fairly) light. The Capital Police detail assigned to protect one of the highest ranking members of the House were the only armed protection on site and were able to stop the attack. Had the Representative Scalise not been in attendance it would have been a far different story as it took Alexandria, VA police ten minutes or more to respond. Representative Mo Brooks summed it up pretty well with the quote of the day from yesterday:

“All we would have had would have been baseball bats versus a rifle. Those aren’t good odds.”

No, they are not Representative Brooks which is why the Second Amendment is so important to those of us without federal protection details. However, anti-gun liberals were calling for curtailing those rights even before the attacker’s body reached room temperature.

Folks, over the last decade or so we have seen American politics and society as a whole become ever more divided. Tribalism in the US is rampant and growing worse everyday. Unless we can find leadership that can reverse this trend and start to bring us back together this type of event will become ever more common. As serious as the injuries inflicted were, if we don’t find a way to reign this kind of thing in future incidents will be far, far worse.

I don’t believe such actions will be limited to leftists and Democrats. At some point the divide and the escalating attacks incited by the media and our “leaders” will generate reprisals and attacks by the Right as well. It will take longer but it will happen. There are crazies (useful idiots) on both sides.

Some believe there is time to step back from the brink of madness. I hope and pray they are right. Personally, I think we are already on the slippery slope and it is not a matter of if, but how quickly, before the thin line between civilization and chaos is breached…

Do you have a plan or an idea of what you will do if/when that line is crossed?

Are you ready to implement that plan/idea?

If not, you might want to get on that…

God bless.

More Media Twisting And Spinning

About two weeks ago 39-year-old Kori Ali Muhammad went on a shooting spree in Fresno California killing at least three. His motivation appears to be racial and he stated he hated white people and specifically targeted white men in his rampage. As he was taken into custody he yelled Allahu Akhbar.

Many news agencies took it upon themselves to translate his screams into English (god is great) and neglected to mention that it had been translated. Many refused to mention the racial angle in any more than passing. Compare that to the coverage of Dylan Roof’s similarly motivated acts of violence and we see yet another instance of the media twisting and spinning to further their own agenda rather than report the facts…

God bless.

Who Watches The Watchers: ATF Edition

who_watches_the_watchmen__by_jarvisrama99-d7a5yw6Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

Who will guard the guardians?

Who can watch the watchmen?

When the arm of the government responsible for enforcing the laws of the US blatantly disregard those same laws what does that say about the state of our union?

Federal law forbids the creation of a national gun registry, forbids the collection of personal information about US citizens but that didn’t matter to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF). According to a report released by the Government Accounting Office (GAO) the ATF chose to do it anyway.

So, what will happen to those responsible for knowingly breaking they law they are entrusted to enforce?

Probably nothing…

There will be hand wringing, finger pointing, promises to discipline those involved, some reassignment of roles and responsibilities and then business will return to normal.

Centuries ago Greek writers like Juvenal and Plato contemplated the same challenges we face today and debated possible solutions for decades. Our founding also fathers foresaw the same threat. Their solution was to severely limit the powers of the federal government, and to provide a system of checks and balances between the federal branches as well as between the state and the federal governments. Unfortunately, we have been removing those limits and checks and balances for decades and this is what we end up with…

It isn’t just the ATF, it is the IRS, the EPA, the Veterans Administration, etc. all conduct themselves as if they were above the laws of the land. They seem to hold those very laws and duties they are sworn to uphold as inconveniences to be worked around. They seem to hold the laws of this land and the people of this nation in contempt.

While I have doubts he will actually do it, I couldn’t agree more with the Trump slogan that it is truly (past) time to drain the swamp and hold Washington bureaucrats and politicians accountable.

Sorry for the rant…

God Bless

Not With A Bang But With A Whimper

If you spend any time on gun forums, gun related pages on FezBook or most gun stores you know them, the self-proclaimed III%ers who are ready to go to war as soon as the government begins confiscating firearms or abolishing the 2nd Amendment. I have even heard of police officers predicting 90% of local law enforcement would fall ill with the “blue flu” if such orders ever came from Washington. There is always a lot of testosterone laden bluster and chest thumping on the subject.

On the other side you have the anti’s who scoff at the idea of millions of gun owners armed only with rifles and handguns taking on the might of Washington. Drones, tanks and supersonic fighters they say make such resistance futile and short lived. Of course, not being well versed in history or things military they forget that countries like Afghanistan and Vietnam have been fighting off vastly superior armies not just for decades but for centuries. They either ignore or forget that the Syrian military was far better equipped than many of our NATO allies and was a significant regional power. Their military was armed with plenty of modern tanks, supersonic fighters and probably some drone technology too. Until a bunch of fanatics with suicide vests and AKs virtually crushed them. In fact if it wasn’t for the assistance of Russian and another bunch of fanatic terrorists (Hezbollah) Syria exist only as a province of the ISIS proclaimed caliphate.

Keyboard commandos can debate both sides of this argument forever because that’s just not how it will likely play out. Even anti-gun politicians are smart enough to know that door to door confiscation will not work in the US. The laws, if they pass, will go into effect and many legal gun owners (because they are law abiding folks by and large) will comply; definitely not all, maybe not even the majority but many will.

What about the rest?

I don’t think it will be door to door confiscation. It will be accomplished through much more subtle means that are less likely to create a flashpoint event. In fact, the folks over at have posted a pretty good start of the types of tactics they will use. Check it out here.

Unfortunately, I think some sort of flashpoint is likely.  It will probably be over some fairly obscure situation that no one on either side expected to escalate out of control, something like the Bundy Ranch standoff or another Waco or Ruby Ridge. I don’t know when it will come, probably not in my lifetime but unless there are major changes in this country we are headed to some sort of tipping point. I hope and pray, it will be a peaceful one like an Article V Constitutional Convention.

Pray for our nation. Pray for our leaders, even those you don’t like. Pray we can get this country back on track. I do. Every day.

God Bless
