A Time To Reflect And Plan (Part 2)

In Part 1 we looked, at a high level, at what specific scenarios we are preparing for. In this post we will look at the plan we have put together for becoming more prepared in 2022.

We will use the same format as we use in the Preparing For the Resistance series of posts:

Toughen Up

Spiritually:

      1. For 2022, I want to complete a detailed study of four books of the Bible.
      2. Perform three additional service projects per year

Mentally:

I don’t know of anyway to specifically strengthen myself mentally for what is coming. Strengthening myself spiritually and physically requires and will build mental toughness. Tactical training that forces a fighting mindset strengthens mental toughness. As does a basic awareness of what is happening in our nation and our world.

An even tougher question is how to help those around me become stranger mentally without discouraging them…

Physically:

      1. First and foremost, I want to get my shoulder squared away and healed so I can work and fight more effectively.
      2. I want to lose 15-20 pounds
      3. I will get myself in good enough cardio condition to run half a mile and be able to pass the Marine Corps Combat Fitness test and complete a “Murph Challenge.”
      4. I want to get Wonderful Wife into a regular workout routine.
      5. Finally, I need to get off my duff and get a fully functional security system set up and running as well signing up for a monitoring service for the system.

Be Smarter

      1. Pass my exam for a Ham license
      2. Complete a medical training class
      3. Complete at least six tactical training classes during the year.

Be More Resilient

Supplies:

      1. We are in the process of building up our stockpiles and would like to complete that in Q1 of 2022.
      2. Fill in the holes identified in the 100 Things That Disappear In A Collapse exercise.

Gear:

      1. Our bugout bags are a mess and have been pilfered through the lock-downs of 2020 and 2021. We need to get these ready to go at a moment’s notice.
      2. The same goes for my get home bag. It’s been so long since I really left the house that I need to get this back back in shape and restocked.
      3. I also want to put together a get home back/crate/tub for my Hippy Dippy daughter in San Antonio.
      4. I need to do a test run on a number of critical gear items; single room air conditioner, new propane heater,  butane powered burner, propane stove, and our lanterns.

Finances:

      1. Add $24,000 to our savings/investments
      2. Write our will
      3. Purchase a prepaid funeral plan

Energy:

      1. Buy a backup generator
      2. Buy a small solar charging system that can be used for charging electronic devices

Those are my goals for 2022. How about you? Do you have a prep plan for next year? Feel free to share it in the comments below.

Be alert, get prepared, fight the good fight!

God bless and God save the Republic.

A Time To Reflect And Plan (Part 1)

About this time every year I try to take a little time to reflect on my general state of preparedness and make some plans for the coming year. It is easy to get caught up in things that are fun or easy and overlook critical items that are not as much fun or not as easy to accomplish. Having a plan at the beginning of the year helps make that what is most important gets taken care of.

The first thing we do is to decide what we should be preparing for. This has remained pretty consistent since Hurricane Harvey:

    1. Death – Death is a given. We will all die at some point it is just a matter of when. We have both accepted Jesus Christ as our savior and have received His grace so while we are not exactly ready to go shuffling off we know we will be with Him in eternity. From our perspective, the most important prep of all is handled. However, neither of us wants to be burden on those we leave behind so there is still some things we need to take care of in order to feel fully prepared. Specifically, we need to get our wills done and purchase a funeral policy so those costs and arrangements are out of the way.
    2. Retirement – Hopefully, this happens and happens before item number one. We were poor as church mice when we got married and it took everything we had to raise the kids and make sure they had what they needed so we go a late start on retirement planning. We are playing catch up on this big time. I contribute as much as possible to our 401k but we also need to build up other investment and annuities to make sure we can retire and not have to eat out of a dumpster. Based on the current state of the Social (in)Security program, we are not counting on it at all.
    3. Hurricane – On average a major storm hits this area about every ten years so we should be good for a bit. Averages are funny things and we don’t take it for granted that we could get hit at anytime during the season and need to be ready.
    4. Flood – This was never an issue until Hurricane Harvey but it weighs heavily on our planning at this point.
    5. Financial Collapse – Well, this isn’t so much a possible scenario as it is one we are living through right now. Wonderful Wife was laid off twice this year and inflation is tearing into our savings and disposable income like a pig into slop. I believe we are in the early stages of a financial collapse or at least some of the hardest economic times in living memory.
    6. Social Disruption – Have you seen the news? Again, I think we are already on that ride we are just slow part of the ride before the bottom drops out.

These are the scenarios we are trying to prepare for in Part 2 we will look at how we plan to be better prepared for them.

Be alert, get prepared, fight the good fight!

God bless and God save the Republic.

Preparing For The Resistance – December 2021

I am changing up the format of this series just a little bit. In my post Prepare For The Resistance I outlined how I think patriots should be preparing for the dark days ahead. To reinforce those recommendations I am formatting these posts to match up with them. We’ll run that way for a few months and see how it goes.

Toughen Up

Spiritually:

As a Christian, studying The Word helps strengthen my faith. This month I continued my study of the Gospel of John.

Prayer is another way to strengthen ourselves spiritually. This month I continued my regular, daily prayers and continued to pray for my 50 closest neighbors.

Fellowship with other believers and fellowship with God is a critical component to maintaining spiritual strength. This month I continued teaching Sunday School and attending church.

Mentally:

I am really at a loss on how to toughen up mentally. I try and keep aware of the threats around us so I am not taken off guard. I am doing my small unit tactical training which does definitely toughen me up mentally as well as building skills. Outside of that I am not sure what else I can do. Please leave comments in the suggestions area below if you have ideas.

Physically:

I went back to the doctor for my shoulder. Surgery will not be required at this pointy. He gave me a cortisone shot, a course of anti-inflammatory medication and muscle relaxers and I will be starting physical therapy in January (soonest available appointment). In the meantime he also wants me to take it easy until I start with the physical therapist.

I (mostly) continued hitting the gym in my effort to get into better shape. With the medical appointments, work, the holidays and some personal matters I have missed more days that I normally would. Now, if I could just get wonderful Wife to join me…

Be Smarter

I learned how to use Chirp to program my radios.

Attended another tactical training class on small unit tactics.

Be More Resilient

We took advantage of various holiday sales to stock up or purchase a lot of stuff that we felt we would need in the coming dark times. Hope you did too.

Supplies:

I keep Rite in the Rain notepads in all my packs and bags. We picked up a few spares for extra bags as well as for replacements.

Ammo:

9mm (300 rounds)

5.56 (120 rounds)

Restocked the primary pantry from our emergency pantry. We have started to increase the amount of food we are storing in the emergency pantry. I am working hard to find places to store is and rotate it properly. I have cleaned out a space that should work for another shelving unit and ordered it but it will be a bit before it comes in.

We purchased an additional eight mantles for our propane lanterns. If we are in need of using these lanterns we probably won’t be in a position to get extra mantles.

Gear:

I purchased a pair of red dot optics. The original plans was that one would be for training/backup rifle and one for my “fighting” rifle. They are very similar optics from the same manufacturer but the one I planned to mount on the fighting rifle is built a little tougher and includes an anti-reflection device (kill flash) the other will be for my training/backup rifle where durability is not quite as important.

When I saw a really good deal from Palmetto State Armory on complete 5.56 upper receiver. I picked one up and mounted the second red dot sight and backup iron sights to it. That gives me one upper set up for longer range and one for shorter range and I can switch between them without having to go to the range and zero in the rifle.

I was able to get out to the range and zero the optic on the training/backup rifle but haven’t been able to get back out and do the same on the new upper. While I was at it I spent a few rounds just practicing with both rifles and my primary carry handgun.

I picked up another AR lower, trigger, and lower parts kits. I am thinking about filing a Form 1 and building a Short Barreled Rifle (SBR). I got rid of all my AR pistols when the Biden ATF started talking about coming after them and I miss having a nice compact self-defense weapon like that. I also hear the wait times on electronic Form 1’s is not too ridiculous.

I decided to upgrade my war belt and purchased the Blue Alpha Double Belt Rig from Warrior Poet Society. To take advantage of the new rig I also purchased a new holster to provide better retention and less bulk.

flashlight score

O-Light (yes, I know, made in China) ran a number o specials over the holidays and I made the most of it. I purchased a new weapon mounted light that is more powerful than the one I had on the rifle previously but with less weight. A periscope style light that can clip to my gear or be worn as a headlamp and (yet more) key chain/pen lights. All in all I was able to add a lot of lighting for relatively little cash.

I added a bolt carrier group (BCG) last month and added two more this month. They were on sale at a really good price. For the time being they will be spares for our defensive rifles. When the time comes for each of the grand kids to get their ARs I will already have BCGs for them.

Merry Christmas, and thank you Wonderful Wife!

Wonderful Wife surprised me with an early Christmas present. A CZ Scorpion Evo pistol equipped with all the cool add-ons; Magpul grip, pistol brace, Magpul magazine release, and extended bolt handle. Once tested and sighted in it will become my primary home defense firearm.

We added a couple of 15-round P365 magazines to the inventory. I like to have 9 mags per self-defense firearm and this puts us at that level for the P365s. We also took advantage of sales to add some AR-15 magazines to the inventory. We are now at our minimum inventory levels on magazines for all defensive firearms.

Last month we purchased a propane heater for use if we lose power in winter. This month I purchased the hose that allows the use of larger grill type propane bottles. Thanks to Prepper365 on the suggestion on which one to go with.

Added two more tourniquets. One for my chest rig and one for my plate carrier. I primarily use CAT tourniquets from North American Rescue.

Purchased two additional Baofeng radios and two extended batteries them. I programmed them with a number of channels and frequencies that would be useful in a disaster scenario.

Finances:

We added money to our investment account from Wonderful Wife’s paycheck and also invested a smaller amount in crypto and precious metals (silver).

We have split the precious metals we own between a few different locations for quite some time. I was doing a little “load balancing” between the sites and as part of the inventory I found that we had an extra tenth of an ounce of gold that was not on my inventory sheet. Wonderful Wife also found a silver dime while out and about. God is good.

Continued moving money from savings to an investment account in order to try and minimize the loss of value through inflation. I can only move $150/per month without incurring penalties.

Energy:

I ran the generator for 15-20 minutes to help prevent carburetor issues and make sure it will be good to go if it is ever needed. This is a recurring monthly task.

I found the small, camping style propane tanks in stock at a sporting goods store and purchased two more.

***

That’s it for me. That’s what I prepped this month. How about you? What did you Prep this month?

Be alert, get prepared, fight the good fight!

God bless and God save the Republic.

What Did You Prep This Month?

Walk With God

I continued to pray for my 50 closest neighbors.

I continued my study of the Gospel of John.

I also continued teaching Sunday School and attending church.

Self Defense/Hunting

Purchased an additional bolt carrier group (BCG) for my AR. They were on sale and if something is going to break on an AR it will probably be something in the BCG so it doesn’t hurt to have a spare (or two).

In the past I have generally favored two point slings for my rifles but with the training I have been doing I have found that a single point sling actually works better for me so I picked up a Blue Force Gear single point sling for my primary rifle (it was on sale).

Blue Force Gear single point sling

I also picked up a couple more cheap AR magazines for “dry” training. I plan to use these around the house for practicing mag changes and such. I dedicate specific magazines for this type of training that have the “guts” removed and a fluorescent green tape applied so they can never be mixed up with mags with live rounds. Mistakes can happen, ask the folks on the set Alec Baldwin’s movie (those who are still alive anyway), and anything that can reduce the probability of an incident is worth the money.

Ammo Purchased this month:

5.56/.223: 140

9mm: 100

.22 LR: 100

I attended a small unit tactical training class. In this class we covered a variety of topics including observation, reconnaissance, tracking and area search/clear.

Supplies/Gear

We restocked primary pantry from the emergency pantry and restocked what was rotated out. I have a number of smaller bags of beans, peas, rice and some tea that we have been ordering as part of our regular grocery orders. I normally keep these on a shelf in their original packaging but grouped in larger 1 gallon ziploc bags. Based on some conversations with other preparedness minded folks I went ahead and vacuum sealed them instead of relying on the ziploc bags.

I also reviewed our supply of over the counter pain medicines and found we had burned through a lot of our backup supply during the COVID lock down. We placed an order to bring those levels back up to where they should be. Then did the same with vitamins and supplements.

I noticed that Amazon was unable to fill an regular order for the specific brand of toothpaste I use so I grabbed three tubes from another source and stocked up on the brand Wonderful Wife prefers as well.

Wonderful Wife and I sat down with the list of the 100 Items That Disappear First in A Disaster and reviewed it together. This list is based on the experiences of people who lived through several disasters but primarily on the experiences of those who survived the Bosnian war. We discussed each item to decide if it was applicable and, if so, how well stocked we were on that item. We are putting together a plan to fill the gaps we identified.

Based on the weather related power outages of last winter and our review of the “100 items” list we purchased a propane powered heater. Unlike most propane heaters it is designed and rated to be used indoors and it can run from either the small camping sized propane bottles or the larger tanks used on outdoor gas grills. It should provide plenty of heat to keep at least one room warm even if the power goes out. However, this was a good lesson on doing your homework. I purchased this heater thinking I could run either the smaller camp type propane bottles or larger propane tanks used for outdoor grills and it does. If you buy the adapter for the larger tanks, which I have not been able to locate yet. I also neglected to check the availability of the smaller camp style bottles. Every store around is out of stock and most say they don’t know when to expect them back in. I don’t know if this is a supply chain issue or a simple demand issue. Nevertheless, I did finally find them in stock and not at ridiculous markups and now we have a small but decent supply but I will feel much better as soon as I can get that adapter.

We also purchased an additional five gallon fuel container for gasoline, filled it up and added fuel stabilizer.

Security

No updates here.

Finances

Two of our investment accounts returned dividends. One we reinvested in the same mutual funds that paid the dividend. With the other we withdrew the funds and invested them in precious metals. We also went ahead and purchased the silver coins to give the kids and grand kids for Christmas. We give each one ounce of silver for Christmas and I wanted to make the purchase while they were available and we had the funds.

We reviewed the investment mix of our primary 401k and re-balanced the investment mix based on which options are performing better.

The biggest change for this month is that Wonderful Wife is working again and bringing in a paycheck. We were able to add to our investment accounts, both stock and cryptocurrency with money from her paycheck.

Fitness/Health

Getting in better shape will make me more resilient, harder to kill and increase my ability to defend my family and those I love. This month I have made some very good strides in toughening up physically. I have regained my strength to pre-COVID levels and, in some cases, I am stronger than I have ever been. Pretty good for a over the hill couch potato, I believe. Walking/running is still limited by the injury to my Achilles tendon but I am doing the best I can without damaging it further.

Will I ever be as fast or have the endurance of the ruling junta’s enforcers from anitfa and BLM? Probably not. Will I be as strong? Possibly. Every time I stack on another weight, add another rep or walk a little faster I increase my resiliency, become harder to kill, and increase my ability to protect those I care about.

My goals are to be fit enough to pass the Combat Fitness Test (CFT) and be able to do the Murph Challenge which is based on the workout of a Navy Seal. Will I get there? At close to 60 with a bad shoulder and ankle, probably not. But the closer I get the better prepared I will be for the dark times ahead.

That’s it for me. That’s what I prepped this month. How about you? What did you Prep this month?

Be alert, get prepared, fight the good fight!

Prepare For The Resistance

In previous posts we have talked about how an unelected cabal of bankers, technocrats, bureaucrats and their pet politicians are trying to seize control of our nation and subvert the principles on which it was founded. Michael Yon has termed them collectively as The Beast. They are ignoring the legal constraints placed on them by the US Constitution and the body of law that this nation is founded on. Some, including myself, believe that they have already succeeded in gaining control of the levers of government. We have also discussed how it is time to stand up and resist those tyrants.

If we are to resist we need to prepare for what is ahead. We need to toughen up, be smarter and be more resilient. Because no matter whether we resist or not this nation is in for some tough times.

Toughen Up

As the old saying goes:

“Hard times create strong men. Strong men create good times. Good times create weak men. And, weak men create hard times.”

Well folks, we have been weak and the hard times are here. It is time to start getting strong.

If we can’t put down the beer and chips to get up and change the channel on the television how will we change this nation? We need to get up off the couch and start exercising. We need to get as strong as we can physically. We need to start lugging heavy packs through the woods or around the town. We need to be able to hike or march to get to where we need to be even if the transportation infrastructure collapses. Get in shape and get stronger physically.

No matter how strong a man is, if he doesn’t have the will he can accomplish nothing. Conversely, even the weakest of men will succeed if they have the right attitude. So we need to get our heads in the game and start to toughen up mentally. The tough times ahead will be more than a minor inconvenience. We need to find a way to wrap our heads around what our forefather had to deal with to build this nation our of an untamed wilderness and get back to that mindset.

The Beast and its minions will attack our beliefs, religious and secular. They will belittle them (and us). They will discriminate against us for them. They will physically attack us for them. If our faith is not strong enough we will fall away and The Beast will win. So, we must strengthen ourselves spiritually as well so our faith can carry us through the dark times to come.

Toughening up physically, mentally and spiritually are the most important preparations we can make.

Be Smarter

If improving our physical, mental and spiritual strength are the most important ways we can prepare for The Resistance, skills come a close second. We need to be smarter than our opponents who consider themselves our superiors. We need to learn new and critical skills including how to protect our privacy and how to fight. Learn first aid. Learn about online privacy. Learn about off-grid communications. Learn how to fight. Not just how to shoot but how to fight and protect those you love with or without a firearm.

Be More Resilient

The more we depend on goods and services that can disappear based on the will of The Beast then we cannot resist. We need to prepare to be more resilient to disruptions in the food supply and the supply of critical goods. We need to prepare for disruptions in critical infrastructure including power and water. We need to be prepared to weather the tough financial storms that they can unleash. We also need to go without critical services including our own security. Many parts of the country are already dealing with this. Current policy of those who have usurped this nation are driving down the number of police officers and reducing their willingness to respond to violent situations. The same is happening with fire, EMS and even hospitals. I read an article just the other day about a young boy who watched his father die of a heart attack because their local EMS could not respond in time due to local COVID mandates.

If you plan to join The Resistance, it’s time to get started preparing for what is to come.

Even if you don’t plan to join the resistance, you need to prepare as well. Tough times and tyrants don’t discriminate. If you are not one of the elite, you are expendable all “for the greater good” of course…

Be alert, get prepared, fight the good fight!

God bless and God save the Republic.

Let’s Be Clear

A long time reader of the blog posted a comment on my post Dear Virginia, Welcome to the Resistance! Love, Florida. Instead of answering in the comments I want to respond in this post because I want everyone who visit this blog to be very clear on a few things and answering his comment will be a very good way to publicly clarify my purpose, goals as well as what I am encouraging people to do. It also allows me to ensure that I am clear on what I am not encouraging people to do.

This is in no way intended to demean him, his concerns or his point of view. I have a great deal of respect for many of his opinions and the perspective his life experiences provide.

We all know political systems sucks but have you truly thought this through?

Now, my issue is not with the political system of the United States of America. I fully support the Constitution and wholeheartedly  believe in the founding principles of this nation. I am an American patriot. In fact, that is the exact reason that I am taking this path.

I believe that the political system in the nation has been subverted. I believe that those in power have effectively overthrown the lawful government of the nation and are acting without the constraint of the laws of this land. These people doing this are moving forward with their own agenda and for their own enrichment while ignoring the laws of the land.

Here are just a few examples:

      • Those in power have committed widespread election fraud in order to win elections.
      •  They have allowed and encouraged private companies to illegally influence the election process and stifle political opposition.
      • They have fabricated evidence in order to obtain illegal warrants to spy on American citizens and even an elected President of the United States.
      • They are illegally holding hundreds of Americans in prison without due process or bail for their political beliefs and to send a warning to others who might oppose them.
      • They have not only failed in their obligation to protect the borders of this nation but have encouraged massive illegal border crossings.
      • They have actively used the power of the Federal bureaucracy to intimidate, harass and silence political opposition.

I could go on and on but, in short, they have transformed the United States into something that more closely resembles a Banana Republic than a first world nation.

Have I thought this through?

Yes, I have.

I have been watching and analyzing what has been happening to my country for years. In that time I have looked at the problems we face from several points of view and have tried to understand the arguments and motivations of those who hold differing points of view. I am a Christian and do my best to evaluate my thoughts and actions against scripture as well as praying on this topic almost nightly for years. That does not mean that I believe I have divine sanction for what I am saying or advocating. It does mean that I do not believe my actions or conclusions go against what God commands. This process will not stop. I will continue to analyze, observe, measure against scripture and pray for guidance.

Even if you have, do yourself a favor and go take a good long look in the mirror that is your families eyes.

Not just the grown ups but also the children.

Then ask them if they know the difference between civil war, homicide, blind hate, or status, racial, and religious genocide.

That and what life without one of their siblings or family member would be like for them.

To be perfectly frank, my kids and grand kids are exactly who I am doing this for. I want them to have a chance to live in our nation as it was intended to be. Where the people hold the reigns of power not a handful of un-elected bureaucrats, technocrats, bankers and their pet politicians.

I am old school and from Texas where we tend to take a person at their word. So, when those in power say they want to put those who don’t think the same way they do in “reeducation camps,” when they threaten to deny medical care to those who don’t tow the line, when they encourage violence against those who oppose them, and protect those who take action and commit such violence, I have to stand up. I will not see my kids and grand kids (or anyone else’s for that matter) loaded into boxcars bound for an American Gulag, or worse…

If we do not stand up now, the fight will be much harder and much, much uglier in the future.

Because once the more feral get involved in some half hearted people’s rebellion against the system, there will be no difference to some ON BOTH SIDES between someone ‘in uniform’ or a family who have the ‘wrong job’, happen to live in the wrong zip code, follow the wrong politics, or even the wrong God.

Americans who do not support the “party line” are subject to harassment. They are not even safe in their homes. God forbid you cross them as they mill make sure you lose your job. The feral, as he calls them, are already involved. Riots, assaults, and murder are already the order of the day in many parts of the US and unless we put a stop to it now it will only get worse.

As I mentioned in the post Welcome To the Resistance, The new goals of this blog are simple:

    • Raise awareness of the dire situation our nation is in
    • Help people to prepare for the times ahead
    • Encourage Americans to resist the tyranny we face

To be perfectly and absolutely clear, I have not once encouraged anyone to engage in any acts of violence. The only act of resistance I have encouraged in any post at this point is to vote and to push for laws that will help prevent the sort of massive voter fraud we have seen in the last several elections. I do plan on encouraging many more acts of resistance but none involve violence in any way. I have and plan to continue to encourage folks to prepare to defend themselves against the “more feral” and the violence that they are already visiting on many parts of the country.

Be alert, get prepared, fight the good fight!

God bless and God save the Republic.

Project Get Fit 2021 (Part 2): Week 15

Not me, I don’t have that much hair on my head…

After a late Sunday evening walking with the grand kids as they celebrated Halloween, trick-or-treating through the neighborhood I was pretty tired when it came time to exercise. I was able to force myself to go mainly because Wonderful Wife was working late. It went better than expected. Even as tired as I was I made it through the whole list of exercises and even increased the number of reps on a few.

An issue with blood sugar kept me out of the gym on Wednesday but I did make it in on Thursday. All went well and I was able to catch up to where I was pre-COVID on another exercise.

I couldn’t make it into the gym on Saturday because I had a training class. Then again, walking crouching, and running around learning Area Search and Clear tactics while carrying an AR-15 and the rest of my gear was a pretty good workout in and of itself.

Stay alert, stay prepared and stay safe.

God bless.

Goal: Complete a Murph Challenge in 2022

Welcome To The Resistance

I believe the United States of America has fallen. I am pretty sure I have posted that belief before and I know it has been a frequent topic of conversation among friends and family. The bottom line is that I believe my country is effectively under the control of an unelected oligarchy of bankers, technocrats and bureaucrats. Those who are destroying our society are firmly in control of the levers of power. However, there are still many in this country who still believe in the founding principles and want to return the levers of power to those who should rightly be in control of them, the people.

We Are The Resistance.

Those who have stolen our nation started out calling us Bitter Clingers and then Deplorables. They now just refer to anyone who shows any potential of standing against them white supremacists, racists, fascists, homophobes, Islamophobes, the American Taliban, and domestic terrorists.

In light of the current situation the focus of this blog is changing. We want to raise awareness of what is going on and the threats we face. Because things will get far worse before they get better we want to help people to prepare for the times ahead and provide guidance and direction for those who heed that call. Lastly, it is time (past time, actually) to stand our ground and take our nation back. We hope to help encourage true Americans in those efforts.

Welcome to The Resistance!
